Its products include XM standard electronic drum set, XMR Professional electronic drum set, XM-CUSTOM, XM-WORLD, XMZ, XMT, and XML learning machine. XM products receive patents in several countries, such as US, Germany, Taiwan, and China. XM design team members come from various backgrounds, including electronics, mechanics, music, and ID design. With the collaboration of these talents, XM is able to customize drums sets satisfying different users’ needs. XM products are user friendly, allowing all users to enjoy drum-playing.

XM is one of the few electronic drum makers that provide mesh drumhead. If you already have a set of jazz drums and don’t want to spend a fortune to purchase an entire set of electronic drums, you can simply purchase XM drumheads and accessories and install them on your own drums to enjoy playing electronic drums.

Although I have not played an XM kit, from the looks of the video demo below they look like fun. The best thing I like about them is that they look so much like a real acoustic drum set and sound like them too.

I’ve done a bit of research on these kits and I have found that quite a few people think the modules are quite cheap in quality and don’t offer a wide range of programmed drum sets. The XM website (www.xm-world.com) is also a little difficult to follow and it seems quite hard to work out how to buy one.

Even doing a simple Google search for XM-Drums proves that its tricky to find places you can get your hands on one. The only place that I could find was a few listings on eBay and Drum-tech.

If you know of other places to buy XM-Drums, please leave a comment. Let me know what you think of them too. I’d like to find out.

Cheers

Greg

How Electric Drum Sets Work

GD Star Rating
loading...

Basically, when the Electric Drum Pad is struck, this triggers a voltage change in the embedded force sensitive resistor (FSR) (or piezoelectric transducer…what a mouthful!). This signal is then transmitted to the Drum Brain via cables and translated into digital waveforms, which produces the desired percussion sound selected in the Drum Brain. Each Drum Pad can be assigned to different sounds, giving the Electric Drummer endless potential of configuring the Drum Set. This ability gives Electric Drum Sets a great advantage over Acoustic Drum Sets because you can simply change the whole sound of the Drum Set with the push of a button.

Some critics say that Electric Drum Sets will never sound the same as Acoustic Drum Sets, but some brands out such as Yamaha and Roland are starting to make the playing experience and sound almost indistinguishable to Acoustic Drum Sets.
